Mount Kenya Climbing : 5 Days Mount Kenya Up Sirimon Down Chogoria

Day 1. Nairobi to Nanyuki to Old Moses camp 3300m. Distance: 9km.
Drive from Nairobi to Nanyuki where you will pick the other team of cook and porters and drive for 1 hour to Sirimon Park gate 2,650 m. where the trekking start. After clearing with the park authority, we will start the hike through the forest accompanied by the guides, cook and porters to Old Moses camp 3,300 m. arriving in the afternoon. (3-4 hrs walk).

Day 2. Old Moses to Shipton camp 4200m. Distance. 14 km. (6-7hrs).
After breakfast, hike through the moorland viewing high attitude flowers, animals and birds species up the Mackinders valley to Shipton camp 4,200 m. at the bottom of the peaks. (6-7 hrs walk POLE POLE).

Day 3. After 2am tea, you start the climb up the loose scree for 3 hrs.
Climb up to Lenana Peak 4,985 m. for sunrise and taking pictures. After sunrise, you descend down to meet the team on the way to Mintos camp where you stop for breakfast and rest the whole of the day in your tent and with a very nice views of the peaks , dinner and overnight at mintos camp.

Day4. After breakfast, you continue with the hike down 5 hrs. on Chogoria route viewing the fascinating Gorge’s valley to Mt Kenya Bandas for hot shower, dinner and overnight. 5 to 6 hrs walk.

Day 5. Descend – Transfer To Nairobi
After breakfast at 7.00 am to 8.00 am, you will meet with the crews and wish them a farewell, drive through the forest with our transport vehicle to Chogoria village and then drive back to Nairobi.

  • All Park entrance and camping fees. Cooking utensils and other camping equipment.

Not Included:

  • Accommodation in the Tents/Huts ( where applicable). and meals out of itinerary.

Tips,

  • Personal trekking equipment.
  • The following is the list of equipment you have to bring with you or hire locally :
  • Sleeping bags, rucksack, hiking boots and a light trainers shoes, flashlight (torch), warm jacket, Balaclava (woolen hat), several pairs of warm socks, a pair of gloves, Rain jacket (Poncho) and a pair of water proof trousers, fleeces or warm sweater(s), 2 liters reusable water bottle, walking sticks, gaiters, light toiletry articles, masks sanitizers and other personal items
